Tu Kaha 2008 has been organized by Central Region DHBs to bring together key stakeholders from across the health and associated sectors to advance Maori Health Development in the Central Region DHB.
The conference will provide a forum to promote and celebrate the achievements / successes that have occurred to date and will provide the Central Region with an opportunity to learn more about our success, build on our combined strengths and prioritize those things that will improve Maori health outcomes in the future.
The conference is entitled “Tu Kaha” as it has taken great strength and leadership to achieve what we have to date and we need to build on these strengths to improve Maori health in the future. The Tu Kaha 2008 conference logo depicts the head of the fish or the lower North Island (Central Region DHB) thrusting out of the water which symbolizes strength, innovation and leadership.
Day one will promote and acknowledge the diverse range of Maori health leadership, activity and development that has occurred in the Central Region. It will particularly highlight the strengths associated with these initiatives, the impact they have had and the outcomes that have been achieved. The key theme will be acknowledging and learning from the diverse strengths in our region.
Day two will expand on day one, and will be used to discuss priorities for Maori Health Development in the future. An overview of key considerations when setting future priorities will be presented and participants will have an opportunity to robustly debate and discuss what these priorities should be. The key theme will be working together to advance our collective Central Region DHB Maori Health Development priorities.
